Miriam Smith

Associate Professor, San Francisco State University

Miriam A. Smith is an Associate Professor in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts at San Francisco State University where she teaches in the areas of media law, media management and economics, media ethics and mobile media.

She has published in the U.S. and China and has been quoted by U.S. media (radio, tv and newspapers), Swiss radio and by a Polish magazine. In addition to presenting at conferences and guest lecturing in the U.S., Miriam has taught in Switzerland and Germany and lectured in Jordan, Brazil, Russia and China. In 2004, she received a Fulbright to study visual culture in Germany.

Miriam received an A.S. from the College of Eastern Utah, a B.A. in European Studies from Brigham Young University, a J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School (BYU) and an M.A. in Communications Management from the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California.

An advisor to the internationally-renown folk dance group, Clog America, Miriam is also a handbell ringer and serves on the San Francisco/Oakland Multi-Stake Communications Council.
